Ryan Gosling Is Totally Down to Play ‘Husky Ken’ in a ‘Barbie’ Sequel or Spin-Off

The actor insisted he knows "nothing" about a follow-up to the smash movie

Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig have remained pretty steadfast in their thoughts about a Barbie sequel: They’re not that interested. But it’s hard to imagine Mattel letting a $1 billion picture go by without a sequel, whether it’s about Barbie or — maybe, who knows? — Ryan Gosling’s Ken.

Gosling was asked about a potential Barbie 2 at a recent event in London and was sure to hold the party line: “Oh, I’m not going anywhere near that. We really know nothing” (via Variety).

But that didn’t stop Gosling from throwing out some ideas for a more Ken-centric project: “Can it be a husky Ken?” he quipped. “Can I play Husky Ken, like Sandwich Ken? Can I play that Ken next time?”

Barbie co-star America Ferrera was also on-hand for the event and reiterated that Robbie and Gerwig “did not set out to make a franchise.” She continued: “They put it all out on the table. Every bit of it that they loved and that they knew to do, they did. Which is refreshing, right? We’re not setting it up for 20 years of Barbie movies. But then again, I know nothing, so there might be 20 years… or a Ken spinoff?”

The door to a possible Ken sequel was inched open during a recent 60 Minutes interview with Gerwig and her partner/Barbie co-writer Noah Baumbach. “We had way too much material for Ken,” Gerwig said, with Baumbach adding, “Don’t give it away because we might…” Baumbach stopped short before saying more, and when the two were flat-out asked about a Ken movie, they demurred, as best they could, with a “no comment.”

Gerwig then added, “I mean, the truth is, I guess we’ll see.”
